Training has officially started & Some news

So this week marks week 1 of my 6 week training plan leading up to my first tri on July 10th.  Here is a quick breakdown of how it's gone so far.

Day 1 - Sunday, May 30, 2010 - Rest Day

Rest day.  I love this plan!  How do you start with a rest day?  Went miniputting up in Laval, and am seriously considering going to SkyVenture, an indoor skydiving simulation.  They are also building an indoor surf wave, which will be awesome when it opens.  All in all, good day.  Went to Bofinger for dinner, so that wasn't the MOST healthy, but it was delicious.

Day 2 after the jump...

Day 2 - Monday, May 31, 2010 - 45 Minute Swim in Zone 1, Strength Train for 20 Minutes

Overall a good swim.  Did a 1500m swim with drills that was set up for me by a friend (modified a bit).  Lots of kicking, and lots of focusing on form.  Definitely good.  I can already feel my form improving (or so I think), paying a lot attention to exaggerating my rotation as I swim, so that I swim like a sail boat, not a barge (as I was so eloquently told by the swim instructor that I won from the Joe's Team Tri fundraising contest).

Did Insanity Power Cardio Power and Resistance with Andrew von Rosenbach after my swim.  Felt good to do Insanity again.  I haven't done it in MONTHS, and I felt it.  had to take a few breaks, but overall, managed to do pretty well.  Sweating buckets by the end, so that hasn't changed.

Day 3 - Tuesday, June 1, 2010 - 30 Minute Swim in Zone 1

Good run today.  Felt confident and strong, and managed to run for the full 30 minutes at a pace of 5'17"/km. It was actually 5'07", but I slowed down to cross the street a few times.  Definitely ran out of Zone 1 for most of it, but I was feeling good, so I don't mind.  Legs and back were sore going in, but they loosened up pretty well.  May be really sore tomorrow...  But the 60 minute bike ride I have planned will clear that right up!  (Or at least I hope it will!)

So on to a bit of news.

I am considering doing 2 more races.  First, Sept. 11 here in Montreal.  It is the annual Esprit Montreal Triathlon.  I would sign up for the Sprint again, making that 3 sprints in 3 months.  It's definitely doable.  This would probably be a pretty fun race to do.  What are peoples' thoughts about doing it?

Also, my aunt sent me a link to a bike race in Collingwood, called the Centurion Canada.  It is the following weekend, Sept. 18.  The races are either a 25, 50 or 100 mile ride.  At my skill level, obviously I'd be doing the 25 mi ride.  This means a 40km bike ride through the Blue Mountains.  Hills are not my strength in biking.  Well, uphills aren't...  This would be fun to see how my biking skills rank with others, and to see how hard I can push myself on a bike-only race.  That is a ways away, but I have to start thinking about it to figure out if it fits into my schedule.

Anyone have any thoughts on if I should do one, or the other, or both?  Input is greatly appreciated!

Hope everyone is doing well, and I will make an effort to blog more.  It's going to be a daily thing, if possible!
